The Nots

Writing keeps me on the good side of sane. Never has this been more evident than after a week of not writing.

The mountain cabin was lovely. The company was lovely. The view was lovely. My brain without pen, paper or computer at hand, however, was not lovely.

I’m a junkie in a bad, bad need for a fix.

Such a ridiculous human being, I am.

Until tomorrow…

The Fix is In

A surprisingly strong day of writing yesterday in both word and thought. Not only was my daily word count goal reached for Twisted Intent, the restructured story’s one last plot hole was filled.

Although this “fix” has yet to reach paper or screen, it is now securely in my head. An improvement of great (honking ginormous) consequence, indeed.

Until tomorrow…

Quick and Dirty

Sometimes you must treat your writing like a lover.

When things have turned predictable and stale, when sex is still had but breathless anticipation of it is not, surprise can be the cure. Corner your other in the kitchen, the foyer, behind a tree in the backyard and instigate a little “quick and dirty.” It is amazing what will come.

(I jumped my writing last night right after dinner and had a rowdy and productive romp with it on the living room floor. It was just what we both so needed.)

Until tomorrow…

Fiendish, I Say

I have never once in my illustrious life been called fiendish. I feared it was simply not within me. Just as chatty, sparkly and chummy are fundamentally beyond my DNA, fiendish was a laughable offense of which to accuse me….

Until my travel blog, that is.

As I’m sure you well remember, I am using my “Tiptoeing Soul” blog to feed my writing fix until familial circumstances permit me to return to the final edits of my 18th novel, The Hushing Days. An enjoyable undertaking all around, plus a nice break from fiction writing…

Well, that was the plan, at least.

Here’s where the fiendishness comes in.

In last week’s Tiptoeing Soul post and in this week’s, I have somehow managed to slip in fictional characters to help me introduce the writing nook. Last week it was a “cockeyed” bloke who stumbled upon my blog. This week, it’s a nasal-voiced auntish character with disapproval seething from her every cockle. These players are only present for the opening paragraph or two. They have no names, no existence beyond their one brief interlude but they are, in my mind, wholly fleshed out fictional characters.

Fiendish use of a travel blog, wouldn’t you say?

I should feel guilty, I suppose.

But I don’t.

Not even a pinch.

I guess, I truly am a fiend.

Until tomorrow…
